9 Indispensable Forums for an Internet Entrepreneur

Entrepreneur 27 Comments

Internet Dog CartoonLet’s face it; nobody knows everything, especially internet entrepreneurs. However when you reach that point where you’re completely stumped about something it helps to have multiple places to turn for information. One such source should be the internet, specifically discussion forums. Why? Because the best forums have 100’s, if not 1000’s of active members at any given point waiting to respond to your question. With 1000’s of people, one of them is bound to have some insight on your problem.

As an internet entrepreneur, I’ve found a number of forums that I know I can turn to, to get my questions answered. Furthermore, many of the forums I’m about to list have a lot of great discussions and articles that I’ve found helpful while casually browsing. I encourage you all to register for a few and make them part of your browsing routine.

1. SitePoint – offers a number of forums ranging from content creation and site design to programming and advertising. SitePoint also has a highly successful marketplace where users can buy listings to sell templates, websites, services and more for a fee ranging from $10 to $40 depending on the category. They also have a contest section which allows users to start design contests for cash prizes. Their system almost eliminates the issue of false contests and from my experience brings in a lot of talent.

2. DigitalPoint – is quite similar to SitePoint in terms of the topics covered and features offered to their users, however the main difference is the cost related to the forum features. Whereas SitePoint created paid listings for their marketplace and contest postings, DigitalPoint has remained free. Although you may find that the quality of sites, designs and contests offered here is less than that of SitePoint.

3. Webmaster-Talk – is another large forum covering a variety of internet related topics. They have forums discussions SEO, web programming, domain names and web design. And like the two previous forums also have a buy, sell and trade section for users to sell web designs, domains and websites. I would place this in third place after SitePoint and DigitalPoint when it comes to an all-around webmaster forum.

4. V7N – I just recently discovered V7N while looking for some answers and so far have found it to be quite helpful. It is very similar in setup to DigitalPoint, covering blogging, SEO, web design and programming. However it has fewer forums and seems to have an overall cleaner appearance. I have yet to make it part of my browsing routine, but it is definitely worth the look.

5. WickedFire – provides information on affiliate marketing and SEO information. The forum overall has struck me as less structured than others with more freedom provided to the users to say what they want when they want. Either way, I’ve found a number of great posts embedded within and recommend checking it out especially if you’re interested in affiliate marketing.

6. NamePros – is a rather large forums focused primarily on domain sales and discussion. Besides domain discussion they also touch on web development and internet money making. As with all of the other forums I’ve discussed so far, they have their own marketplace packed full of domains for sale. Definitely worth a look if your in the market for a domain.

7. DNForum – like NamePros, DNForum also focuses primarily on domain sales and discussion. However they also touch on content generation, web development and industry news. The main drawback of DNForum is they offer paid memberships which are needed to access a majority of the forums which is less than ideal for the average person.

8. DevShed – If you’re a do-it-yourself internet entrepreneur like me, then you like to try and program your websites yourself. And if you’re anything like me, then I’m sure you run into problems and have programming questions all the time. Have no fear though because DevShed’s forums are packed with helpful people who know a TON about web development and programming. If you can’t figure it out, make a post here and anyone of their 209,000 members might be able to help.

9. Young Entrepreneur – Although I prefer to get the bulk of my entrepreneurial knowledge from blogs and books, the Young Entrepreneur’s forum provides a nice area to discuss business planning and startup opportunities. What strikes me odd is that this is one of the few dedicated entrepreneur forums I could find. Does anyone know of others?

So there’s my list of go to forums. I hope a few of these are new to you and that you consider registering an account. If you have any other recommendations for helpful forums please feel free to post a comment.

Thanks for the list. I normally hit DigitalPoint and NamePros everyday, SitePoint a couple of times a week. I will have to give these new forums a look.

    2. 2 shaun August 21, 2007

I don’t really participate in forums but excellent list!

    3. 3 Matt Jones August 21, 2007

    4. 4 Tomaz August 22, 2007

Thanks, I didn’t know about 3 of them.

    5. 5 Deron Sizemore August 22, 2007

      Nice List!

I frequented WickedFire for a while but just just got tired of it. Seems to much off topic stuff. Maybe it’s better now?

    6. 6 Charles Lau August 22, 2007

Nice post on my first visit.. I am just starting to go forums… this is the good list to start. Thanks

    7. 7 Gregg Hawkins August 22, 2007

All great places to gain access to a wealth of information. However, the bigger forums I find that sometimes the members aren’t as helpful. With the smaller forums you get a more one on one feeling with some of the members.

I’ve posted things on sitepoint and digitalpoint just to have my post go unnoticed the whole day :(

Deron – Yeah I’ve found WickedFire to be a bit off topic too. It’s not one that I go to a lot, but they do have a few good affiliate and SEO posts every once in awhile.

Gregg – I’ve never really had a post go unnoticed on either of those forums. The major reason why I prefer the larger forums is because of how many people are always on. I tend to get very quick answers, especially to programming related questions. Do you have any smaller forums you could recommend?

I haven’t given much thought to forums…until now. I’ll have to check these out. I’ve been gather most of my info from blogs. Thanks!

    13. 13 Word Hugger September 3, 2007

I usually just stick to Digitalpoint, with a random glance at the others. Digitalpoint seems to have the most activity, and there just is not enough time to browse the others frequently.

    14. 14 Marc Eilbeck September 5, 2007

DP is by far the best. I had a look at wickedfire and did a ‘hey’ post and they all told me to ‘f**k off’ and called me a spammer lol.
