November Goals

Goal Setting CartoonI’ve found in past months (June, August) that posting my goals for the month is extremely helpful and gives me just a little more incentive to complete them. It is extremely rewarding at the end of the month in my monthly review to say that I’ve completed what I set out to do. So in getting back into that habit I want to share my monthly goals with everyone and encourage everyone to respond with either a link to their monthly goals post or a comment with their goals included.

1. Post Consistently
This is the most obvious goal for me this month. My goal for the month and from now on is to post at least 1 post every weekday. I have yet to decide what to do on weekends and there are many thoughts on whether or not to post on the weekend….what are your thoughts?

2. Increase RSS Readership to 100
Back in my August goals post I set my goal for the end of the year for RSS readers to 100, but I feel that I can hopefully gain another 30-40 readers within this month to make my way to 100. I think the key to doing so will be posting consistently and promoting my RSS feed…so if you have yet to subscribe please sign up for my feed!

3. Launch a New Design
This goal I know will happen and it will probably happen within the next day or two, nevertheless I’m putting it as a goal of mine. Although I like the cleanliness and simplicity of my current design I’d just like to change a few minor things around and make a bit more room for incorporating a few ad blocks and more content. Stay tuned in the next day or two for this!

4. Build Relationships
One of the keys to blogging and making it in the blogosphere is developing relationships with your fellow bloggers. In August I set my goal to meet new bloggers and in fact I did so by talking with a few new people like Adnan from Blogtrepreneur, Matt from Blogging Fingers and Deron from Random Jabber, but after my absence I think it’s a good idea to start re-developing relationships and creating new ones. If you are interested in chatting, feel free to contact me.

5. Develop New Projects
Even during my absence from blogging I was thinking of new ideas for internet projects that I’d like to develop and I think I’ve come up with quite few that are worth trying. Over the course of the next month I’d like to, at the very least, start to develop them. The ideas I have so far are pretty programming intensive so I think they will probably keep me busy for a few weeks at least.

And there you have it, my goals for November. I definitely think they are attainable and plan to do my best to reach them. Now it’s your turn! Feel free to leave a comment linking to your monthly goals or comment with your goals, I’d love to hear what your plans are.

There’s so much to be said for writing down your goals, Erik.

I’m looking forward to your new design. It seems everybody is going the new route recently. It’s good fun, for sure. :)

Good luck with your goals! I’ll be following with interest as usual.

Thanks Jamie, the new design isn’t an over the top change like a lot of the ones that have happened recently, but it makes room for a few more things and is a nice change I think.

      Hey Erik,

I think it’s great that you list out your goals for the month, and that they are actually achievable goals.

My question is, when you write your goals out and put them out there for the world to see, does it seem easier to make them?

Hi Christine, thanks for commenting. I have found that when I post my goals for everyone to see it gives me a little more incentive to actually reach those goals. When people know my goals and when I have to go through them at the end of the month during my review post, I feel a more let down letting everyone know I haven’t reached my goals.

[…] forget to practice what we preach. Today, I’m going to record my goals here on the blog. Like Erik, I find that if my readers know what my goals are, it gives me added incentive to push towards […]

Thanks for the mention Erik! Yeah I wasn’t quite sure what happened to ya. I visited a couple times over the last couple months and noticed no updates. Glad you’re back.
